Nepal Urged to Work Towards Removal from 'Grey List' with High Priority

In an optimistic approach, Chief Commissioner Prem Kumar Rai has urged all agencies to prioritize the task of removing Nepal from the 'Grey List' related to asset cleansing, emphasizing the importance of conducting honest and result-oriented work. During a meeting with representatives from the Asia Pacific Group on Wednesday, discussions were held to strengthen collaboration and coordination for the effective implementation of the action plan determined in accordance with international standards. Highlighting the need for swift completion of national risk assessments, Rai emphasized the necessity to focus on areas with high risks for improvement and further enhancement of research capabilities. Rai commended the role of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority in conducting investigations related to asset cleansing violations, expressing gratitude for the available technical support for future endeavors. Appreciating the support provided by the Asia Pacific Group in aiding Nepal's removal from the 'Grey List', Chief Commissioner Rai shared insights on policies, legal reforms, institutional enhancements, research capacity development, and inter-agency coordination efforts. Rai also stressed the importance of establishing specialized branches within the Prime Minister's Office with a focus on effective regulation, supervision, and enforcement in high-risk sectors, as well as assigning additional responsibilities to relevant agencies for monitoring and implementing legal frameworks. Rai reiterated the commitment to recovering assets associated with corruption and other financial crimes, as well as gathering useful evidence for investigations through mutual legal assistance agreements with various countries. Furthermore, he encouraged sharing experiences and knowledge exchange with countries that have successfully exited the 'Grey List', fostering coordination, commitment, and effective implementation measures for Nepal's removal. In conclusion, Chief Commissioner Rai expressed determination to make asset cleansing investigations and enforcement more impactful, emphasizing the necessity for all stakeholders to work together collaboratively, with commitment and effective implementation, to free Nepal from the 'Grey List'.
