Government Imposes Registration Halt on New Public Transport, Electric Vehicles Also Not Registered
The Department of Transport Management has issued directives to stop the registration of new electric public transport vehicles, contacting seven provinces and all local levels on Thursday. The department highlighted the difficulty in managing the influx of vehicles due to rising fuel prices and high demand for public transportation, addressing the decision to halt registration as necessary for appropriate public transport management. The decision aligns with Section 24(3) of the Vehicle and Transportation Management Act, 2049 BS, which allows authorities to order the suspension of registration for any type of vehicle in the interest of public welfare if deemed suitable based on environmental pollution, vehicle pressure, road conditions, or other factors. The government aims to implement scientific management of public transport, with the decision set to take effect immediately until further notice. Consequently, no new public transport vehicles, including electric ones, will be registered nationwide until alternative arrangements are made.
