Questions Raised by Auditor General's Office Regarding Lack of Benefits from Carbon Trading
Nepal has established a mechanism to register for the 'Gold Standard' scheme for carbon sales. However, the Auditor General's Office has questioned the lack of timely verification and registration leading to potential loss of income. Despite Nepal's significant efforts in environmental conservation and carbon emission reduction, concerns have been raised about the country not reaping appropriate benefits. In accordance with the Environmental Protection Act, 2076, the government can participate in international mechanisms established through treaties for carbon emission reduction and sequestration.
