Dispute over Property Purification in the Case Against Ravi Lamichhane Raises Questions About Relief for the Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman

The Kaski District Court on Friday issued an order to drop allegations of property purification and organized crime against Ravi Lamichhane, the chairman of the ruling Rastriya Prajatantra Party. According to the court, the accusations related to cooperative fraud will remain pending against him and other defendants. The court spokesperson, Rajan Khanal, confirmed this information. "All modifications have been made in favor of the defendant regarding property purification and organized crime charges," he told the BBC. Similarly, the accusations against the co-defendants G.B. Rai and Chabilal Joshi have also been revised. The issue of property purification against Ravi Lamichhane was only in the Kaski District Court, but the organized crime case is also present in Kathmandu, Rupandehi, and Parsa. Therefore, the topic of property purification returning rather than the organized crime case has legal experts suggesting Lamichhane may find relief. Previously, Lamichhane faced questions regarding the absence of his dismissal from the parliamentary position due to the property purification case. If the property purification case does not proceed in court, he may receive relief from political scrutiny. The reason behind this matter is related to the Property Purification Act, which previously raised questions about Lamichhane's parliamentary position not being suspended.
