Citizens' Participation in Nepal's Lawmaking Process Enhanced Through Digital Platform
The Ministry has established a system on its website where the general public can provide suggestions or express their opinions directly on the drafts of laws and bills prepared within the Ministry. Experts have highlighted that this initiative will allow citizens to contribute their views from the initial stages of the legislative process, fostering a more inclusive and transparent lawmaking environment. Former Law Secretary emphasized the importance of providing suggestions on complex legal matters without delay for practical implementation. Minister of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Sovita Gautam emphasized the essential role of citizen participation in the lawmaking process, stating that the ongoing construction process of laws must be citizen-centered. She noted that the Ministry's initiation of a digital platform addresses the challenge of public understanding and practical implementation, reflecting a commitment to engaging citizens effectively in the legislative process.
