Prime Minister Balaunle Won't Address Special Event at Tundikhel on Republic Day
In Kathmandu, Prime Minister Balendra Shah has decided not to address the special event planned to take place at Tundikhel on June 15 on the occasion of Republic Day. The Prime Minister's Office has sent a letter recommending President Ramchandra Poudel to deliver the address instead, citing Article 66, Clause 2 of the Constitution. This clause allows the Prime Minister to make recommendations to the President for any function or duty related to the Constitution or federal laws, which require the President's participation, with the consent and recommendation of the Cabinet. The Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Balena, has formed a main organizing committee for the Republic Day main event. The internal administration department chief secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Rishiram Tiwari, provided information to Rato Pati about how the committee will organize the program at the district and local levels and with relevant bodies. The tradition of the Prime Minister addressing in the presence of the President during Republic Day celebrations has been broken, with the Prime Minister now recommending addressing the President through a letter. The President's Office sources have confirmed receiving a recommendation from the Prime Minister's Office to address the special event to be held at Tundikhel on Republic Day. Even though the President expressed dissatisfaction with the Prime Minister not personally addressing the event, the recommendation was made through official channels. An official source mentioned that it is not up to the Executive Chief to recommend what the Head of State should do, but in current circumstances, even addressing formal events requires a recommendation.
