Special Bulletin on Hot Winds and Heatwave Issued: Public Urged to Exercise Caution in These 6 Districts

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has released a special bulletin regarding hot winds and heatwave conditions, urging the public to take necessary precautions. According to the analysis of temperature trends nationwide, in the next three days, maximum temperatures are expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius or higher in some mountainous and plain areas of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, with a possibility of exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in a few locations, indicating a likelihood of extreme heat. The department's meteorologist, Sanjiv Adhikari, highlighted that moderate hot winds are expected in the plains of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, while hot temperatures are anticipated in the mountainous regions, necessitating heightened vigilance. Areas in the mountainous and plain regions of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces have already recorded maximum temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius since the 6th of this month, with some locations surpassing 38 degrees Celsius. The districts where caution is advised include Kanchanpur, Kailali, Doti, Bardiya, Banke, and Dang, while additional vigilance is recommended in Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Achham, Surkhet, Salyan, Rolpa, Pyuthan, Palpa, Arghakhanchi, Rupandehi, and Kapilvastu. Potential impacts from hot winds and heatwaves such as fatigue, weakness, increased perspiration, headaches, dizziness, fainting, muscle pain, and blisters have been observed, prompting the call for preventive measures. To mitigate the effects of hot winds and heatwaves, the department advises staying indoors in cool areas, avoiding prolonged exposure to outdoor environments, wearing light clothing, covering the head when venturing outside in direct sunlight, and consuming adequate water and liquid foods regularly. Additionally, individuals experiencing health issues are encouraged to maintain regular contact with healthcare professionals for further advice and recommendations.
