Renowned Sarod Player Sudarshan Rajopadhyay Honored with 'Kalakshetram' Award

Kathmandu - Sudarshan Rajopadhyay, a highly acclaimed sarod player in the music realm, has been honored with the 'Kalakshetram' award in India, adding yet another milestone to his illustrious career. The award was presented to Rajopadhyay during the India Festival 2026 organized by the Akhil Lok Kala Cultural Organization in Pune, Maharashtra. According to the organization's Secretary Dr. Pramod Nanavare, the India Festival witnessed over 3,500 artists from various states of India presenting traditional arts like Bharat Natyam, Kathak, and folk music, showcasing the rich cultural diversity. Rajopadhyay was entrusted with a pivotal role to oversee and conduct the festival, highlighting his exceptional talent and expertise in the field. Beyond borders, Sudarshan Rajopadhyay has been instrumental in promoting Nepali art and culture on the international stage, receiving accolades such as the 'Sur Taal International Honor Award 2025', 'Unity in Diversity National Award 2020', 'Indian Besties Award - 2019', and the 'Music Manjari' title from the West Bengal government. His contributions have also been recognized in Nepal, where he received the 'Swarnapatra' award in Gujarat in 2015 and won the first prize in a district-wide music competition in 2002. Apart from his mastery in sarod playing, Rajopadhyay has also delved into various other Nepali instruments and genres, releasing CDs and cassettes featuring melodious tracks in Nepali, classical, and meditative music, showcasing his versatility and creativity in the musical realm.
